Partnership for Peace: Zminijietna opposes Malta’s re-activation

Zminijietna – Voice of the Left expressed its opposition to the Government’s decision to reactivate Malta’s application to join NATO’s Partnership for Peace project. Zminijietna described Government’s move as ‘rash, undemocratic and contrary to the spirit of neutrality’.

Zminijietna said

“We object to the fact that the Maltese Government reactivated Malta’s application in such a rash manner, without even consulting parliament. This decision is even more anti-democratic because it was not mentioned in the electoral programme of the Nationalist Party. The Government should have shown more respect to the Maltese people, especially when neutrality is enshrined in Malta’s constitution”.

Zminijietna added

“The Partnership for Peace is a branch and structure of NATO, whose aggressiveness was shown in recent cases such as Yugoslavia, and which, in the last instance, acts for imperialist interests rather than world peace and social justice. Partnership for Peace Member states are obliged to send their national military planning, programmes and budgets to NATO, which will thus have more geo-political influence. NATO will have more influence on Malta, thus going against Malta’s constitutional neutrality”.

“Zminijietna – Voice of the Left believes that instead of having a stronger imperialist structure like NATO, there should be a reformed United Nations, so that it is able to take on the missions that are necessary, so that it can respond early and proactively to prevent genocide, for example, should be a global policy priority. Within this context, Malta and the European Union should emphasise the values of peace, equality, social justice and ecological sustainability”.

Partnership for Peace: Zminijietna topponi ir-riattivazzjoni ta' Malta

Zminijietna – Lehen ix-Xellug esprimiet oppozizzjoni ghad-decizzjoni tal-Gvern li jirrattiva l-applikazzjoni ta' Malta biex tissieheb fil-Partnership for Peace, li hu progett tan-NATO. Zminijietna iddeskriviet il-mossa tal-Gvern bhala wahda 'mghaggla, anti-demokratika u li tmur kontra l-ispirtu tan-newtralita'.

Zminijietna qalet

“Noggezzjonaw ghall-fatt li l-Gvern Malt irriattiva l-applikazzjoni ta' Malta b'mod daqshekk mghaggel, minghajr biss ma kkonsulta mal-Parlament. Din id-decizzjoni hija iktar u iktar anti-demokratika minhabba li ma kienetx imsemmija fil-programm elettorali tal-Partit Nazzjonalita. Il-Gvern missu wera iktar rispett lill-poplu Malti, specjalment meta n-newtralita' hija parti mill-kostituzzjoni ta' pajjizna".

Zminijietna sahqet

“Il-Partnership for Peace hija parti mill-istruttura tan-NATO. In-NATO tahdem ghal skopijiet imperjalisti u mhux ghall-paci u l-gustizzja socjali.  L-aggressivita' taghha giet murija f'dawn l-ahhar snin f'kazijiet bhall-Jugoslavja. Pajjizi msiehba fil-Partnership for Peace iridu jissottomettu l-ippjanar militari, programmi u bugits lin-NATO, biex b'hekk din ta' l-ahhar ikollha iktar influenza geo-politika. NATO ser ikollha iktar influenza fuq Malta, u dan imur kontra in-newtralita' kostituzzjonali ta' pajjizna".

“Zminijietna – Lehen ix-Xellug temmen li minflok struttura imperjalista bhal m'hi NATO, ghandu jkun hemm riforma fil-Gnus Maqghuda, biex din tkun tista' tmexxi missjonijiet neccessarji f'kazijiet bhal genocidju, f'qasir zmien u bi priorita' globali. F'dan il-kuntest, Malta u l-Unjoni Ewropea ghandhom jenfassizzaw il-valuri tal-paci, ugwaljanza, gustizzja socjali u sostenibilita' ekologika".
