Żminijietna appeals Government to address the problem of poverty in Malta

Żminijietna – Voice of the Left appeals to the Government for more social policies in order to overcome the increase of Poverty in Malta. Many families are facing financial difficulties, and the Government is responsible to that.

“The privatization of essential public services and the increase in property prices, water and electricity tariffs, medicines and bank charges have all resulted in a higher cost of living, while the income value of the worker has drastically decreased throughout the years.”

A large amount of the families on a minimum wage and those earning just over the minimum wage are the most susceptible to the present high cost of living, and are in the risk of falling beneath the poverty line. An NSO statistic shows that 17% of the population is in a risk of poverty, lacking in essential needs mostly in food, education and health.

Zminijietna – Voice of the Left beliefs that the solutions for a more just egalitarian society should be addressed by firstly adopting a social and ecological policies through creation of decent and secure jobs, an increase in the minimum wage, more possibilities of training for people with low level of education to advance in society, protection of worker’s rights and more measures to promote the concept of family-work life balance and more Government spending in social services.

Zminijietna beliefs, that every fiscal incentive and contract given to the private sector through public funds should assure decent jobs instead of precarious working conditions.

“In order to move towards a more equitable and just society, Government should continue to enforce law on tax evaders and should consider raising the income tax from 35% to 40% on the financial sector, banks and the gaming industry”, concluded Zminijietna – Voice of the Left

Żminijietna tappella l-Gvern biex jindirizza l-problema tal-faqar f’Malta

Żminijietna – Leħen ix-Xellug appellat l-Gvern għall-politika aktar soċjali sabiex tiġi miġġielda il-problema tal-faqar f’Malta. Ħafna familji qed jesperjenzaw problemi finanzjarji, u ta’ dan il-Gvern huwa responsabbli.

“Il-privatizzazzjoni ta’ servizzi pubbliċi u żieda fil-prezzijiet tal-propjeta, tariffi ta’ dawl u l-ilma, medicini u nteressi bankarji qed ilkoll jwasslu għal żieda ta’ l-gholi tal-ħajja, filwaqt li l-valur tal-paga ta’ ħaddiem kull ma jmur qed tonqos drastikament.”

Ammont kbir ta’ familji f’Malta li jaqalaw ftit aktar mill-paga minima u oħrajn bil-paga minima huma l-aktar suġġettibbli għaż-żieda fl-għoli tal-ħajja, u huma wkoll f’riskju ta’ faqar u nuqqas fil-ħtiġijiet essenzjali ta’ kuljum, fosthom l-edukazzjoni, l-ikel u saħħa. Statistika mill-NSO maħruġa dan l-aħħar turi li 17% tal-familji Maltin qed jgħixu f'riskju ta' faqar.

Żminijietna – Leħen ix-Xellug temmen li s-soluzzjonijiet għal soċjeta aktar ġusta għandhom jiġi kkonstatati billi l-ewwelnett naddottaw politika soċjali u ekoloġika u mhux waħda neoliberali, nippromwovu tkabbir sostenibbli u l-ugwaljanza, ħolqien ta’ xoghol diċenti u stabbli, żieda fil-paga minima, aktar possibbiltajiet għal ‘upskilling’ ta’ zagħzagħ b’livell baxx ta’ edukazzjoni, protezzjoni fil-kundizzjonijiet tax-xogħol u aktar ligijiet favur 'work- life balance’, kif wkoll investiment pubbliku f’aktar servizzi soċjali.”

Nemmnu li kull inċentiv fiskali li jingħata mill-Gvern lis-settur privat għandu jissigura kundizzjonijiet ta’ xogħol diċenti lill-ħaddiema u mhux xogħol prekarju.

“Sabiex nersqu lejn soċjeta aktar ugwali u ġusta, il-Gvern għandu jkompli fil-ġlieda tiegħu kontra l-evazjoni ta’ taxxa, kif ukoll għandu jikkonsidra jżied it-taxxa ta’ dħul minn 35% għal 40% għas-settur bankarju, dak finanżjarju u l-industrija ta’ ‘on line gaming”.
