“Il-principju ta’ min inigges ihallas ghandha tigi applikata”, Zminijietna

Zminijietna – Lehen ix-Xellug filwaqt li tfahhar l-inizzjattiva tal-Gvern li jnaddaf u jirrijabilita wied il-Ghasel sa wied Ghajn Rihana, jappella l-Gvern biex jassigura l-poplu Malti li l-principju ‘min inigges ihallas’ jkun applikat f’dan ir-rigward.

“’Il-Project Description Statement’ dwar dan il-progett juru li wiehed mill-impatti negattivi li affettwa l-aktar dan il-wied gej mill-industrija tal-kostruzzjoni li qed joperaw ma’ gemb il-wied. Filfatt l-istess rapport li hejja l-Gvern jikkonferma li ghal snin twal materjal tal-kostruzzjoni mill-impjanti vicin kien qed jispicca fil-wied.”

Zminijietna ghalhekk tappella l-Gvern u l-Awtorita ta’ l-ambjent u l-ippjanar biex filwaqt li jaraw li xoghol li jsir jirrispetta il-karatteristici tal-post u l-biodiverista tal-widien, jheggu l-operaturi li huma sors ewlieni ta’ tniggis ta' dawn il-widien biex jhallsu ta’ hsara kkagunata.

Mhumiex sew li l-poplu jhallas ghall-hsara li giet iggenerata minn entita privata lil widien li ghal giehna suppost huma protetti bil-ligi. Il-gustizzja ekologika li ahna nemmnu fiha ghandha tassigura li minn inigges ihallas u mhux ihallas ghaliha il-poplu mit-taxxi.

“Polluters pay principle should be applied”, Zminijietna

Zminijietna – Voice of the Left while commending the Government's initiative to clean up and rehabilitate wied il-ghasel to wied Ghajn Rihana , calls on the Government to ensure the Maltese people that the polluters pay principle is applied in this regard.

"The Project Description Statement to this project shows that the major impacts that have affected this valley negatively are mainly derived from the construction industry operating adjacent to these valleys. Indeed the same government report confirms that for these last years construction material from the operating plants was ending in the valley."

Therefore Zminijietna urge the Government and the Malta Environment and Planning Authority that while seeing that work to be done respects the characteristics and biodiversity of the valley, enforce the operators who are the main culprits for polluting of these valleys to pay for the damage caused.

“It’s not fair that people are asked to pay for the damage generated to a valley by a private entity when the same valleys should be protected by law at the first place.
The ecological justice we believe in must ensure that whoever pollutes must pay and not pay for it the public.
