Żminijietna - Voice of the Left stands behind the Unions and Air Malta employees

Żminijietna - Voice of the Left understands the difficult situation that Air Malta employees found themselves in. This scenario is common to other European National Airlines such as Alitalia, Cyprus Airline and others, were some Airlines were forced to cease operations and under gone a liquidation process, while others are being privatised.

Workers are the mostly effected by these drastic measures. European Union is also to blame as liberalisation of this service has led to unfair competition, while we also acknowledge that this has brought about cut in air fares of certain routes.

‘State aid’ addressed directly towards National Airlines is prohibited by the EU, on the other hand it is a known fact that without any subsidies low cost Airline will cease to operate. This was stated by the “Irish Times’ on 1st May 2010 with the title “Ryanair profits boosted by subsidies, say rivals”.

"Workers employed with low cost airlines are not unionized, thus it give these airlines unfair advantage. In fact the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITWF) has set up a website to make the public aware of the poor working conditions of low cost airline employees."

On European Level we urge the Maltese Government to base his arguments on the strategic importance of our National Airline because of our insularity as an Island.
Żminijietna - Voice of the Left stands behind the Unions in their effort to save Air Malta employees jobs.

Żminijietna - Leħen ix-Xellug tappoġġja l-Unjins u l-impjegati ta’ AirMalta

Żminijietna - Leħen ix-Xellug tifhem is-sitwazzjoni diffiċli li l-impjegati ta’ Airmalta jinsabu ruħhom fiha. Ix-xenarju attwali li qed jiġri f’Malta qed jgħaddu minnu wkoll diversi linji ta’ l-Arju Nazzjonali oħra Ewropej, bħall-Alitalia, Ċipru Airline u oħrajn, fejn diversi linji ta’ l-Ajru Nazzonali ġew sfurzati jwaqqfu l-operazzjonijiet tagħhom u jitqiegħdu f'likwidazzjoni, filwaqt li oħrajn qegħdin jiġu pprivatizzati.

“Il-fatt hu, li l-ħaddiema li l-aktar li qed jiġu effettwati minn dawn il-miżuri drastiċi. L-Unjoni Ewropea tilgħab parti kbira f'din il-problema, peress li l-liberalizzazzjoni tas-servizz irriduċiet is-servizz għal kompetizzjoni ‘żleali’, filwaqt li ħadd ma jista’ jinnega li din ġabet wkoll tnaqqis drastiku fil-nollijiet ta’ ċertu rotot.

“Sussidji ndirizzati direttament lejn il-Linji ta’ l-Ajru Nazzjonali bħala ‘għajnuna statali’ huma miċħuda direttament mill-UE. Minn naħa l-oħra huwa fatt magħruf li mingħajr is-sussidji, il-linji ta’ l-Ajru ‘low cost’ jiġifieri Ryanair jieqfu joperaw. ‘It-Times’ Irlandiża tirraporta dan fil-ħarġa ta’ 1 ta’ Mejju 2010 bit-titlu 'Ryanair profits boosted by subsidies, say rivals'.

"Peress li il-ħaddiema li jaħdmu mal-linji ta’ l-ajru ‘low cost’ mhumiex imsieħba fi Trejdjunjin, din tagħti lil dawn il-kumpaniji vantaġġ kompetittiv inġust. Infatti l-Federazzjoni tal-Ħaddiema tat-Trasport Internazzjonali (ITF) waqqfet sit elettroniku sabiex jagħmlu l-pubbliku konxju dwar il-kundizzjonijiet nferjuri tax-xogħol tal-ħaddiema mpjegati mall-linji ta’ l-arju ‘low cost’."

Żminijietna - Leħen ix-Xellug tappoġġja lill-ħaddiema kollha ta’ l-AirMalta fil-ġlieda tagħhom sabiex jiġi ssalvagwardjat l-impjieg. Kif ukoll tappoġġja x-xogħol siewi li qed jagħmlu rappreżentanti ta’ Trejdjujins, li huma l-GWU, l-UHM, l-Unjin ta’ Cabin Crew u l-Unjin tal-Piloti Maltin.

Fuq livell Ewropew il-Gvern għandu jitkellem dwar l-importanza strategika tal-Linja ta' l-Ajru ta’ Malta minħabba l-insularita’ ta’ Malta bħala Gżira.  Żminijietna - Leħen ix-Xellug tfaħħar l-kontribut qawwi li qed jagħtu l-Unjins f’din il-kwistjoni.
