Decision to safeguard Governments’ interest.

Zminijietna - Voice of the Left considers the decision taken by MEPAs’ board to vote in favour of the 'outline development brief’ for the extension of Delimara Power Station as a dangerous plan which serves to eases the burden from the government's shoulders and allow him to ignore vital environmental interests.

Government will ‘invest all’ in the plant that will operate on heavy fuel oil, will create 10,000 tons per year of waste. This will effect not only our country, but also other countries in which waste will be transported and deposited. All this go against the vision of sustainable development in the field of energy in Malta.

"By this decision, the climate change committee was emasculated and one can say that his existence has become an insignificant one, now that the problem will be resolved by an investment in the extension of Delimara Power Station, with a generation of an amount of waste per year. Climate change committee’s recommendations to the Government and environmental NGOs, such as to invest in the use of gas were all discarded by the Government.”

Zminijietna – Voice of the Left believes that all this, is driven by a policy which considers environment as second class in the development and progress of the country. We believe that to overcome the problem of climate change, we need a change in politics and mentality.

Id-decizjoni tal-MEPA thares biss l-interessi tal-Gvern

Zminijietna – Lehen ix-Xellug tqies id-decizjoni tal-Bord tal-MEPA li jivvota favur ‘outline development brief’ ghal estenzjoni tal-power station gewwa Delimara bhala decizjoni perikoluza li sservi biss biex tnaqqas ir-responsabilta minn fuq spallejn il-Gvern u thalli l-Gvern bil-facilita li jinjora kull interess ambjentali li huwa wiehed serju.

"L-investiment fl-estenzjoni ta' l-impjant li ser jithaddem fuq ‘heavy fuel oil’ ser johloq 10,000 tunnellata ta’ skart fis-sena. Dana ser jaffettwa mhux biss lil pajjizna, izda ser jaffettwa hazin pajjizi ohrajn li lejhom ser jigi trasportat u depositat l-iskart. Dana kollu jmur kontra l-vizjoni ta’ nvestiment f'sorsi nodfa ta' l-energija."

“B’din id-decizjoni, nemmnu li l-Kumitat ghall-bidla fil-klima, li kien mahtur mill-istess Gvern sabiex jirricerka u johrog b'soluzzjonijiet favur investiment f'sorsi aktar nodfa ta' l-energija spicca umiljat u skartat mill-istess Gvern. L-esistenza tieghu llum saret wahda insinjifikanti, issa li problema ser tkun rizolta b’investiment f'impjant li ser jiggenera ammont kbir ta’ skart fis-sena. Ir-rakomandazzjonijiet li kien rressaq il-Kumitat lill-Gvern u lill-Ghaqdiet ambjentali, b'wahda minnhom li bhala pajjiz ninvestu fl-uzu tal-gass sabiex nilhqu il-miri Ewropej, kollha gew skartati b'din id-decizjoni."

Zminijietna – Lehen ix-Xellug temmen li l-politika tal-Gvern prezenti tikklassifika l-ambjent u sahha tan-nies bhala ta’ tieni klassi. Ahna nemmu li biex tingheleb il-problema ghall-bidla fil-klima, jehtieg bidla fil-politika u l-mentalita.
