Żminijietna - Voice of the Left criticises the telecommunications company GO that is using competitiveness as an excuse to finally get rid of the last 150 workers who are employed on a regular basis. The fact that the company is shifting its workforce towards atypical employment means, that the company wants to base its competitiveness by altering and reducing the present conditions of work and not by improving the service.

"The same can be said about those companies that are moving towards the recruitment of new workers on atypical employment based on a few months contract, part-time and ‘agency workers’. Researches on labour studies show that workers on 'atypical' employment are facing particular challenges in the labour market because they are finding themselves with less job security, difficulty in setting up family and less job training at work".

As well, workers on atypical employment have fewer opportunities for a career development in their jobs. Difficulties in reconciling a work - life balance. There is also a tendency that these workers will end up getting low wages. With regards health and safety, workers on atypical employment, due to increased insecurity, could also experience mental and health problems.

Żminijietna - Voice of the Left appeals employers so that flexibility is solely used for the benefit of the worker, to obtain supplementary training, so the worker will have the ability and skills to perform different tasks and not to introduce precarious jobs.

“The maximization of profit should not be at the expense of workers. If nothing is done to address these problems, we will find ourselves facing major social problems, and the ones to blame will be all those employers who are introducing this type of jobs”.

Żminijietna – Leħen ix-Xellug tikkritika l-Kumpanija tat-telekomunikazzjoni GO li qed tuża l-iskuża tal-kompetittivita biex finalment teħles minn dawk il-ħaddiema li kienu regulari, li llum fil-kumpanija fadal biss ma’ 150 ħaddiem. L-istess jista’ jingħad għal dawk il-kumpaniji l-oħrajn li qed jirrisolvu ruħhom għall-ingaġġ ta’ ħaddiema b’xogħol atipiku, li jfisser xogħol b’kuntratti ta’ ftit xhur, part-time u ‘agency workers’.  Diversi studji li jitrattaw il-qasam tal-ħaddiem juru li ħaddiema b’xogħol ‘atipiku’ qed jiffaċċjaw sfidi partikolari fosthom fis-suq tax-xogħol minħabba li qed isibu li għandhom inqas sigurtà ta’ mpjieg, diffikulta fil-ħajja privata tagħhom biex jibnu l-familja u qed jiffaċċjaw anqas taħriġ fuq il-post tax-xogħol.

Kif ukoll il-ħaddiema b'xogħol atipiku għandhom anqas opportunita li jimxu l-quddiem fil-karriera tagħhom, kif ukoll diffikultajiet akbar fir-rikonċiljazzjoni tax-xogħol u l-familja minħabba l-istess karatteristiċi ta’ xogħol atipiku. Hemm tendenza li dawn il-ħaddiema jispiċċaw jaħdmu f’xogħol b’pagi relattivament baxxi. Dwar is-saħħa u s-sigurtà, ħaddiema fuq kuntratti atipiċi minħabba li m'għandhomx sigurta, jista’ jesperjenzaw effetti negattivi fuq is-saħħa fiżikali u mentali tagħhom.

Żminijietna – Leħen ix-Xellug tappella s-sidien tal-ħaddiema sabiex il-flessibilita tintuża sabiex il-ħaddiem fil-post tax-xogħol ikun aktar flessibli f’dak li x-xogħol li jipproduċi u mhux biex jinbidlu l-kundizzjonijiet ta’ l-impjieg tagħhom. 

"Il-massimizzar tal-profit m’għandux isir askapitu tal-kundizzjonijiet tal-ħaddiema. Fis-soċjeta tagħna jekk mhux ser isir xejn biex jiġu ndirizzati dawn il-problemi ser insibu ruħna niffaċċjaw problemi soċjali kbar, u ta’ dan jaħtu l-istess sidien li qed jużaw dawn il-metodi ġodda tax-xogħol".
