PR: Żminijietna welcomes European Parliament resolution on Single Parent families

Żminijietna - Voice of the Left welcomes the European Parliament resolution which put emphasis on the need for more support for single mothers and their children.

“The resolution is laying pressure on member states to help these parents, by setting up family centres, support in temporary social housing, tax deduction and education,” said Żminijietna.

“National statistics illustrate that in Malta there are about 3,650 single parent families with one or more dependent children; of these, a full 54% or (a total of 5,450 persons) are at risk of poverty”.

“The resolution talks also on the need to empower single mothers to enter in the labour market, so not to rely entirely on the state for their financial support. Single mothers throughout Europe tend to be less educated. We believe that access to vocational training is necessary to enable young women in this situation to continue their education and get jobs. Family friendly measures should be given importance in this regard.

Żminijietna – Voice of the Left supports European members of Parliament’s call for the importance of more education and information about sexual and reproductive rights of women as a measure for reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies.

Żminijietna tilqa’ r-riżoluzzjoni tal-Parlament Ewropew dwar il-familji b’ġenitur wieħed.

Żminijietna - Leħen ix-Xellug tilqa’ ir-riżoluzzjoni tal-Parlament Ewropew fejn qed jagħmel enfasi fuq il-ħtieġa għal aktar appoġġ għal ommijiet waħedhom u t-tfal tagħhom.

“Ir-riżoluzzjoni titkellem favur pressjoni fuq l-Istati Membri biex jgħinu lil dawn il-ġenituri, billi jwaqqfu ċentri tal-familja, appoġġ temporanju ta’ akkomodazzjoni soċjali tnaqqis tat-taxxa, u l-edukazzjoni,” qalet Żminijietna.

“Statistika Nazzjonali turi li f'Malta hawn madwar 3650 familja b’ġenitur wieħed b’wieħed jew aktar tfal dipendenti; minn dawn, 54% jew total ta’ 5450 persuni huma f'riskju ta’ faqar”.

“Ir-riżoluzzjoni titkellem wkoll fuq il-ħtieġa li jagħtu s-setgħa lil ommijiet waħedhom biex jidħlu fis-suq tax-xogħol, sabiex ma jistriħux għal kollox fuq l-istat għall-appoġġ finanzjarju tagħhom. Ommijiet waħedhom fl-Ewropa kollha għandhom tendenza li jkunu inqas edukati. Aħna nemmnu li l-aċċess għal taħriġ vokazzjonali huwa meħtieġ biex in-nisa jkomplu l-edukazzjoni tagħhom u jiksbu l-impjieg. Miżuri favur il-familja għandhom jingħataw importanza f'dan ir-rigward”.

Żminijietna - Leħen ix-Xellug tappoġġa l-membri Ewropej għas-sejħa tal-Parlament dwar l-importanza ta’ aktar edukazzjoni u informazzjoni dwar id-drittijiet sesswali u riproduttivi tan-nisa bħala miżura biex jitnaqqas l-għadd ta’ tqala mhux mixtieqa.
