Press Release: Żminijietna – Voice of the Left applauds the European Parliament for shooting down ACTA

European Parliament voted overwhelmingly against ACTA, with 478 votes against and only 39 in favour of it. There were 146 abstentions.

“This result confirms the decisions taken by the European Parliament committees, among them the Legal Affairs Committee (JURI), the Committee for Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) and the Committee for Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE), when they all voted against the implementation of this agreement”.

“This agreement caused mass protests across Europe. International organisation, such as Oxfam campaigned also against this agreement, as this threatens developing countries in accessing low priced generic medicines.

“This vote confirms that Malta Government’s decision to sign this agreement was ill-founded”, stated Żminijietna.

Stqarrija Stampa: Żminijietna tfaħħar il-Parlament Ewropew talli ċaħad l-ACTA

Il-Parlament Ewropew ivvota b’moġġoranza assoluta kontra trattat ACTA, 478 voti kontra u 39 biss favur it-trattat. Kien hemm 146 astensjonijiet.

“Dan ir-riżultat jikkonferma d-deċiżjonijiet meħuda fil-kumitati tal-Parlament Ewropew li fiha ġiet diskussa l-ACTA, fosthom il-Kumitat għall-Affarijiet Legali (JURI), il-Kumitat għall-Industrija, Riċerka u Enerġija (ITRE) u l-Kumitat għall-Libertajiet Ċivili, Ġustizzja u Affarijiet Interni (LIBE), li kollha vvutaw kontra l-implimentazzjoni ta’ dan il-ftehim”.

“Dan il-ftehim ikkawża numru ta’ dimostrazzjonijiet fl-Ewropa. L-organizzazzjoni internazzjonali Oxfam wkoll ħadmet kontra l-ACTA, peress li l-ftehim kien qed jhedded il-pajjiżi li qed jiżviluppaw fl-aċċessibilitá għall-mediċini ġeneriċi bi prezz baxx".

“Dan il-vot tal-Parlament Ewropew jikonferma li d-deċiżjoni tal-Gvern Malti li jiffirma dan it-trattat kienet waħda mgħaġġla u bla qies”, tenniet l-Għaqda Żminijietna.
