Press Release: EU’s “No to Discrimination” campaign.

Żminijietna - Voice of the Left welcomes the new advertising campaign against discrimination recently launched by the European Commission. The advert; ‘Discrimination is Illegal, Fight it’ will be promoted on print and on line and advertised in the 23 official languages of the EU.

The aim of this campaign is to raise awareness on discrimination at the place of work. This campaign will make workers more aware of discrimination based on age, sexual orientation, religion, ethnic origin and disability. Also, to help draw attention and bring more understanding to the EU anti-discrimination law and act as a source where citizens can find further information about their rights.

“On the other hand, we acknowledge that EU’s neo liberal policies for more deregulation of the labour market and austerity measures work against the spirit of this campaign”, said Żminijietna.

“In fact, the austerity measures pushed forward by the redundant duo ‘Merkozy’ through the Fiscal Treaty, brought about in Europe, a rise in support for the far right parties. These parties ideologically are against foreign workers, people with different sexual orientation, immigrants and religious freedom”, continued Żminijietna.

“Advertising campaigns are essential to promote diversity and equality in society but these have to be supported with a political strategy in favour of a just, social and ecological Europe. We also urge the Government to support the EU anti-discrimination Directive.

Stqarrija għall-Istampa: Il-Kampanja Ewropea “Le għad-Diskriminazzjoni”.

L-għan ta’ din il-kampanja huwa li titqajjem aktar kuxjenza dwar id-diskriminazzjoni fuq il-post tax-xogħol. Din il-kampanja se tagħmel lill-ħaddiema aktar konxji dwar id-diskriminazzjoni abbażi ta’ età, orjentazzjoni sesswali, reliġjon, etniċità u diżabilità. Ukoll, tgħin biex tinġiebet għal attenzjoni u ġġib aktar għarfien dwar il-liġijiet eżistendi ta’ UE dwar l-anti-diskriminazzjoni u sservi ta’ sors minn fejn iċ-ċittadin jista’ jsib aktar informazzjoni dwar id-drittijiet tagħhom.

“Min-naħa l-oħra, nirrikonoxxu li l-politika Ewropea ‘neo liberali’ għal aktar deregolamentazzjoni tas-suq tax-xogħol u miżuri ta’ awsterità taħdem kontra l-ispirtu ta’ din il-kampanja”, stqarret Żminijietna.

“Infatti, il-miżuri ta’ awsteritá mbutatti l-quddiem mil- ex duo ‘Merkozy, wasslu fl-Ewropa, għal żieda fl-appoġġ lill-partiti tal-lemin estrem. Dawn il-partiti ideoloġikament huma kontra ħaddiema barranin, nies b’orjentazzjoni sesswali differenti, immigranti u libertá reliġjuża”.

“Il-kampanji ta’ reklamar huma essenzjali biex nippromwovu d-diversità u l-ugwaljanza fis-soċjetà, iżda dawn għandhom jiġu appoġġjati bi strateġija ta’ politika favur Ewropa ġusta, soċjali u ekoloġika”, temmet tgħid Żminijietna.
