Press Release:  Workers’ Day: Żminijietna calls for decent jobs

The working class requires decent jobs, universal public services and policies for equality, said Żminijietna – Voice of the Left in its statement for Workers’ Day.

“We endorse the recent call of the General Workers’ Union for clear legislation against precarious jobs and for decent jobs with dignity. All public service contracts, both governmental and local, should be in line with such a social charter, and employers with negative track records, also including discrimination against minorities, should be blacklisted”.

“Żminijietna maintains its position for universal public services and progressive income tax and against neo-liberal policies, such as privatisation, which are dismantling the welfare state. The State should also ensure that job creation is sustainable, for example through green jobs in areas such as energy and through polices which favour workers’ cooperatives”.

“The Government should introduce legislation for an increase in the minimum wage. This would improve the quality of life of low-income earners, and would encourage more people to seek employment. Family–friendly measures such as universal and free childcare centers should be immediately introduced”.

“Żminijietna maintains that class inequalities are a reality which should be addressed. Economic policies should move away from neo-liberal concepts, and instead ensure social and environmental justice”.

Stqarrija Stampa: Jum il-Ħaddiem: Żminijietna tappella għal xogħol diċenti

Il-klassi tal-ħaddiema teħtieġ xogħol diċenti, servizzi pubbliċi unversali u politika favur l-ugwaljanza, qalet Żminijietna - Leħen ix-Xellug, fl-istqarrija tagħha għal Jum il-Ħaddiem.

“Nappoġġjaw is-sejħa tal-General Workers’ Union favur leġiżlazzjoni ċara kontra x-xogħol prekarju u favur xogħol diċenti u dinjituż. Il-kuntratti pubbliċi kollha, kemm dawk tal-Gvern kif ukoll dawk tal-kunsilli lokali, għandhom jikkonformaw ma’ dan ic-charter soċjali. Sidien li għandhom ‘track record’ negattiv, anke jekk jiddiskriminaw kontra minoranzi, għandhom jiġu esklużi minn dawn il-kuntratti”.

“Żminijietna ssostni l-pożizzjoni tagħha favur servizzi pubbliċi universali u favur ‘income tax’ progressiva, u kontra politika neo-liberali, bħall-privatizazzjoni, li qed iżarmaw il-welfare state. L-istat għandu jassigura ħolqeien ta’ xogħol sostenibbli, bħall m’huma il-‘green jobs’ f’setturi bħall-enerġija u politika li tiffavorixxi il-koperattivi tal-ħaddiema”.

“Il-Gvern għandu jintroduċi leġiżlazzjoni favur żieda fil-paga minima. Din ittejjeb il-kwalità tal-ħajja ta’ ħaddiema li għandhom dħul baxx, u tinkoraġixxi iktar persuni biex jidħlu fid-dinja tax-xogħol. Miżuri favur il-familja bħal childcare centers universali u b’xejn għandhom jiġu ntrodotti immedjatament”.

“Żminijietna ssostni li inugwaljanzi fuq bażi ta’ klassi soċjali huma realtà li għandha tiġi ndirizzata. Il-politika ekonomika għandha twarrab kunċetti neo-liberali, u minflok tiżgura ġustizzja soċjali u ambjentali”.
